The tragic loss has befallen the Organisers of the 10th European Youth Olympic Winter Festival (EYOWF) 2011. Not only was Petr Doležal one of the main initiators of this sporting event in the Liberec Region, but he was also one of the most significant personalities taking part in the organisation. With him, a very modest, hard-working, friendly and kind-hearted person has passed away. He was always ready and willing to help others, to support and advise everyone with a kind word. His composure, knowledge, intolerance of injustice and his life wisdom filled everyone around him with determination and optimism. He was a person who, instead of making loud proclamations, relied on the strength of lucid arguments. Under any circumstances he always tried to look for and find solutions and reach mutual agreement. Thanks to these character traits and his skills he rightfully gained the respect of the public – in his sporting, public and political life.

The life of Petr Doležal is primarily connected with motorsport. He was an excellent representative of Czechoslovakia in hill climbing, in which he won the Czechoslovak champion title five times. He won twenty races in the European Championships series and was a holder of the Fair Play Prize for rescuing an opponent from a blazing car. After retiring from his active career, he became an entrepreneur and took an active part in the  public and political life of the Liberec Region. Between 2004 and 2008 he held the position of  Regional Vice-President for Education, Youth, Physical Education and Sport. In March 2008 he was elected as Chairman of the Administrative Board of the EYOWF 2011, Public Benefit Corporation.

In Petr Doležal we have lost, not only a dedicated professional, but most importantly, a good person and a friend; he was one of us.
