Liberec, Jablonec nad Nisou, and Rejdice – the location of the 10th European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2011 – have passed the first rigorous international inspection.

On November 3 – 4 the coordination commission of the Association of European Olympic Committees (EOC) visited the above towns, in which the small Olympics for youth of the “Old Continent” will take place. The commission consisted of Chairman Janko Dvoršak from Slovenia and a member Volodymyr Gerashchenko from the Ukraine.

On the first day of their visit, they inspected all the venues in which the EYOWF 2011 is to be held: Břízky (Biathlon) and the Winter Stadium (Ice Hockey and Figure Skating) in Jablonec nad Nisou, the Snow Park (Snowboarding) in Rejdice, Vesec (Cross Country Skiing, Nordic Combined), Ještěd (Ski Jumps, Nordic Combination, and Alpine Skiing disciplines), and in the Tipsport Arena (Ice-Hockey and Figure-Skating) in Liberec. In the evening they inspected the Liberec Grandhotel Zlatý lev, which is to accommodate the EOC members and V.I.P. guests.

On the second day, the commission visited the regional metropolis to see the Dr. Edvard Beneš square, which will serve as the Medal Plaza. From here the EOC delegation proceeded to the student dormitories in Harcov. “Here we presented to them our concept of the Olympic village these dormitories will turn into during the 2011 Festival. The commission inspected the rooms in individual blocks, canteen, multimedia room, clubs, and the sports hall,” says the executive manager of the EYOWF 2011 organising committee, Ms Kateřina Nyčová.

Afterwards, the commission members continued to the seat of the organising committee where they were welcomed by the President of the Czech Olympic Committee, Mr Milan Jirásek.  Here the commission had a meeting with the event organisers where the concept of the preparation, schedule, and other important aspects related to the Festival organisation was presented in a great detail.

“Pleasant atmosphere accompanied the entire inspection and both commission members were obviously happy with the overall project as well as with the preparations. They expressed satisfaction not only while inspecting the venues but also at the end of the final meeting when they wished good luck to the organising committee in realizing the well-progressing project,” saidKateřina Nyčová.
