The Liberec Region will organise the IV. Winter Olympics for Children and Youth in 2010

At its meeting on 20th November, 2007, the Council of Liberec Region approved the intention of the Liberec Region to candidate for organiser of the IV. Winter Olympics for Children and Youth in 2010.
The Czech Olympic Committee set the application deadline on 16th May, 2008. The candidacy was processed to allow as many sports activities as possible to be set in Liberec; this increases the chances of participants to support each other and be involved in accompanying programmes.
On the basis of a tender, the Czech Olympic Committee has also charged the Liberec Region with organisation of this supreme winter youth competition in the Czech Republic. The contract on the organisation of the IV. Winter Olympics for Children and Youth was signed by the representatives of Czech Olympic Comitee and Petr Skokan, the President of the Liberec region, on 9th October , 2008.
The Czech Youth Olympics – the major rehearsal for EYOWF 2011 – will take place from 31st January to 5th February , 2010. Senior pupils from all 14 regions of the Czech Republic will contest in the following sports disciplines: Cross Country Skiing; Ski Jumping; Nordic Combined; Alpine Skiing; Snowboarding; Ice Hockey; Biathlon; Figure Skating; and Speed Skating. The programme includes of accompanying cultural contests – a correspondence art contest and standard dancing.
