Despite the bad weather of recent days, the venue of Břízky in Jablonec offered a well prepared track and a clear sky as backdrop for the first race in the Biathlon. There were two races on the programme – the boys 12.5 km and the girls 10 km.

The athletes were supported by their fellow countrymen - the Swedes, the Swiss and of course the Czechs, were among the loudest. In return, they were rewarded with a high-quality race and spirited performances from the athletes. The boys had to complete five laps of the 2.5 km track.

The gold deservedly went to Matthias Dorfer from Germany, who was glowing with joy at the subsequent Flower Ceremony. "I am very happy. I did not expect to finish this well. I am even more happy because I am not the only German on the winners' rostrum," said Dorfer. His fellow countryman Roman Rees collected the bronze medal.

The silver went to Johannes Bo from Norway, who threw his bunch of flowers into the crowd. The Czech biathlete Lukáš Jíra had considered the Norwegian to be the race favourite. He himself finished 16th and was the best Czech on the result list. "I am quite satisfied with my position. I hoped to be among the top twenty and I managed it."

The difficult and icy track in Břízky proved too treacherous for the British athlete Scott Dixon. He collided with a tree on the slope, but fortunately his injuries are not serious.

TWO MISSES STILL OK

The German athlete Laura Dahlmeier took the gold in the girls’ category and left all 78 opponents behind. “I feel great. I had two misses on the shooting range, but I felt good in running and I am so excited about the gold medal,” Laura Dahlmeier described her feelings after the triumph.
Despite organisers being afraid that ice may form on some of the turns, the track was very well prepared for the second round. However, in comparison with boys, the girls had more difficult conditions because the track was full of ruts after the previous boys’ race. “The passage uphill was particularly far from ideal. I got into troubles there,” said the Czech Kristýna Černá, who finished eighth overall.

Hyvä Suvi! . Ammunta on mennyt hyvin, oliko suksissa ongelmia .

Tein analyysin tuloksista, eli hiihtoa pitää alkaa harjoittelemaan kovemmin.

terveisin   Tepu Slant Joutsa
