Logo & motto EYOWF 2011

The EYOWF 2011 logo - the hand as a symbol and the magical number 5

The creator of the winning logo for the 10th European Youth Olympic Winter Festival Liberec 2011 is Veronika Vysloužilová, a student of the Applied Arts School and College in Jablonec nad Nisou.
There are five fingers on the human hand. An open palm symbolizes helpfulness, trust and friendship. A hand thrust out expresses a cooperation, affinity, and mutual respect of a human being for another human being, of an athlete for another athlete. Even more, it is a powerful connecting link between people of various nationalities, races and religions. At the same time, to give a hand is a gesture of reverence, sympathy, and offered help. And this is what type of atmosphere and ideals accompany the competitions of the European Youth Olympic Festivals.
There are five rings on the Olympic flag. Whether these are representatives of small or large countries, whether it is the ancient world or the one of today - the same motto connects all athletes: Faster, higher, stronger! But even though there can be only one winner and of the defeated there are more, the five basic Olympic principles remain the same for all age categories - tolerance, solidarity, humanism, understanding, and fair play.
Five qualities make a great athlete. A champion is not recognized just because of his collection of medals. An athlete is not respected only thanks to his performance in competitions. Whoever wants to win an undisputable place in the history which would mean more than the most precious metals and records must prove more: endurance, fairness, strong will, courage, and respect. Only then a successful athlete becomes great.
