EYOWF 2011 medals resemble diamonds

The medals, which will be distributed to the best athletes at the European Youth Olympic Games (EYOWF) 2011 in the Liberec Region, will look like shiny diamonds. The author of the design, Barbora Hrubá, a student at the Higher Professional Art School in Nový Bor, won in a competition among art schools organised by the Liberec Region.
The 23-year-old, third year student of the glassworks specialisation emerged victorious from amongst more than 30 designs submitted from art schools in the Liberec Region. In her presentation, the medals for EYOWF 2011 looked luxurious and impressive. Barbora Hrubá describes the idea, which took only two days to produce: "I thought of making a square shape with cuts and grinding to imitate diamonds. The glass base will be coined into cast clear glass and will be embellished with colour elements in accordance with the rank on the rostrums."
The jury consisting of representatives of the Liberec Region, members of the EYOWF 2011 Organising Committee and leading regional artists assessed each submitted design based on originality, creativity, price and production process demands. "Barbora's design was our immediate favourite. She used glass, a typical material of our region, in an original way and included the logo and other elements symbolising our event. The medals in her design look truly wonderful and have decisively outshone the others. I believe that the athletes themselves will appreciate the jewel they will be competing for," says Kateřina Nyčová, Executive Director of the EYOWF 2011 Organising Committee.
After Barbora Hrubá’s design will be approved by the directors of EOC, 216 medals will consequently be created. The medals for EYOWF 2011 will be presented to the public for the first time at the beginning of December at a press conference attended by Stanislav Eichler, President of the Liberec Region, and Milan Jirásek, President of the Czech Olympic Committee.
