The skilled ski officer and diplomat, Mr. Roman Kumpost, became Honorary President of the Organising Committee of the 10th European Youth Winter Festival (EYOWF) 2011. The President of the Liberec Region, Mr. Stanislav Eichler, officially introduced him in this new position at today’s press conference.

The Liberec Region will host this event, which represents the largest sport event in the history of the independent Czech Republic between February 12th and 19th, 2011.   1500 athletes, future sports stars, from more than 45 countries will participate in this event.

The President of the Liberec Region, Mr. Stanislav Eichler, had this to say regarding the nomination. “I asked Mr. Kumpost to become Honorary President of the Organising Committee EYOWF 2011. He was personally involved in the successful nomination of this festival in the year 2006 and is carefully observing all of the preparations at present. He is well known as the President of the Organising Committee of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009, unfortunately he had to discontinue this work prematurely for various reasons. I am convinced, however, that we would have several less problems if he had remained in his position. His proven track record of skills and experience will undoubtedly contribute significantly to the success of the event.”

Roman Kumpost was compulsorily retired from his position as the President of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championship 2009 Organising Committee in June 2007. From that time, apart from his business career, he has been actively involved in the Ski Association of the Czech Republic where he is chairman of the supervisory board as well as serving as a delegate of the Nordic Combined in the International Ski Federation (FIS).

Roman Kumpost commented as follows. “I have accepted the offer of the President of the Liberec Region. It is (EYOWF) a very prestigious event, focused on young people and the future of Czech sport. The position of honorary president will not be at all symbolic, however, as my task will be to cover EYOWF 2011 on the social and political level and dedicate myself to its presentation and promotion from the local and international point of view. I hope, that this time, I will be able to remain with the project units its completion”.
